I decided to check out a big thrift store this afternoon while waiting for my car’s oil change to be completed in the off chance I might snag some retro gaming stuff on the cheap. I walked though the place, checking out all the usual sots like the glass display where they put the stuff that’s more likely to be stolen. There was a baby blue DS Lite that they wanted $30 for, as well as two copies of Tetris for the Gameboy which they were asking a reasonable $3 for. I have a couple of them already so I wasn’t interested. I decided to head to the back of the store where they have the TVs and other electronics. I have been lucky here before, snagging a TurboDuo for $25 a few years ago as well as a number of other consoles, cartridges or similar. Unfortunately it was pretty bare today, other than a couple of third party PS2 controllers. Turning back, and about to head for the door, I just happened to glance back toward the glass case that I first checked out and noticed that I missed something. About two feet to the right of where I had been sitting was a Sega Master System Box. It’s a pretty big box. I was right beside it and missed it. Well I went right for it and picked it up. I was expecting a stupidly high price (which sometimes happens at thrift shops when they thing they’ve found a diamond in the rough). The price was $49, significantly more than I would normally spend on a Master System, except this baby was complete in the original box, with manuals and EVERYTHING. $50 is a fantastic price for a find like this… At least it is in my mind.
So, as you can see from the photos, everything is here. It looks like it was used for a very short amount of time and then put away and forgotten about. Manuals, warranty card, poster, RF hook-ups, power source and both controllers. At first I thought it was missing the pack in games until I powered it up and realized that they are built in. Very cool.
Anyway, I though I should share this find with you fine folks. Have a great day!
