Something Crazy Happened: I Completed a Game. Rebel Galaxy Rocked

22 10 2016

Holy crap folks, I did something I almost never do: I played a game to completion. Not since Gears of War 2 (and never before), have I completed the main campaign/story line of a game. In fact, with most games I never play more than fifteen or twenty minutes before never playing them again. It’s both weird and cool to be saying that I have just completed Rebel Galaxy on the PlayStation 4. Actually, I did something bigger: I managed to complete every single Trophy (on XBOX they call them achievements), as well as the main story line. For me this is absolutely unheard of.

Rebel Galaxy is a space combat/piracy/trading/exploration game by the two person studio, Double Damage Games. To me the game feels like I’m Han Solo in something like the Firefly universe – a great combination. You start with a beat up old ship and a mission and go from there. As you gain credits you update your ship and load outs as needed/wanted. There is the main story line as well as countless side missions that earn you credit and gain you points with (or lose points with) various factions in the game depending on who you’re helping and who you’re blasting. You get to choose whether you want ally yourself on the side of the “good guys” (Citizens, the Militia and the Traders) or a Space Pirate. Admittedly it doesn’t have the deepest of story lines, and the game is played on a two dimensional field (a little weird for a space game), but damn it, this game is fun. Also, it’s only freakin’ twenty dollars, and if you have a PlayStation 4 and are a PlayStation Plus member, you may have it already, as it was the give away for Plus members in August, 2016. It might not be for everyone, but if you want to zip around space and blast enemy ships out of existence, then Rebel Galaxy might be for you. You can probably get through the game in about sixty hours, but I stretched it out because I was having such a good time that I didn’t want the fun to end. I say give it a try.

Had An Awesome Time Hangin’ With My Retro Collector Friends From Colexions.com

7 04 2014

My buddy and fellow Retro Gaming fanatic Corey Buckner has put together a great community of fellow minded collectors over at colexions.com. Well, not only has he put together a great site to show off your own collection and geek out over fellow collectors treasures, he also hosts a monthly “Show And Tell” on Google Hangouts. What it is is a group of us collectors having a great time, showing off our stuff and talking about retro gaming and what ever else might come to mind. This was the third monthly get together and boy did we get to see some amazing stuff. We represented five different countries and three different continents but the distances just made the conversation better. It’s really cool to be able to meet like this. We had Corey Buckner (of course) from just outside Chicago and indie game developer Gary Brafford in West Virginia and lifespiller79 from…um sorry man, Texas (I think), all three in the U.S. of A,  We had Gabo representing Argentina, Mark in the U.K, Paul in Australia and little ol’ me up here in Canada. Everyone pulled out all the stops and showed some real stunners from our collections. Checkout last Saturday’s get together below:
