Kiss Colexions.com Goodbye

23 10 2015

Game over ColexionsWell it looks like it is time for us to say goodbye to what was for the longest time my favourite gaming site on the net, colexions.com. I found colexions quite some time ago when I was searching for some way to to catalogue my growing retro gaming collection. I joined this then tiny community of like minded collectors, and aside from a weird time when there was an issue with the site’s URL, I’ve been a member since. Created and curated by Corey Buckner, a guy that quickly became a personal friend, colexions brought together some great folks. Heck, it even eventually became what I was looking for when I found the site: a way to catalogue my collection. Then there were the “Show and Tells” where a bunch of us would get together via Google hangouts and show off our collections and talk about gaming and other collecting topics, and generally have a great time. I met some great people and made a few good friends there. Unfortunately a change in management led to a change in the overall feel of the place. It didn’t feel as fun anymore so I started hanging out there less and less. That said, I never gave up on it, I just didn’t hangout as much.

Earlier this week I noticed the site wasn’t loading, but just thought it was a server issue. Well, after a few days it was announced that the site was no more. This is unfortunate, as it was a good place for a long time. I don’t know exactly why Corey decided to shut the site down, but I have a few ideas that I will keep to myself as they are nothing but conjecture. Ganx, the “President” of the site made some general statements regarding the end of colexions that gave no clarity, though to be fair, I believe that Corey may have not told him. I will say that Ganx telling the now ex members of the colexions community to look at ourselves when trying to figure out the reason as to why Corey may have shuttered the site was asinine. Ganx, you won me over as a friend a long time ago, but lost that when I realized how much of what we all were hearing was nothing but smoke and mirrors. There’s the mirror you should look into.

Recent Pick Up: Game Boy Advance And Mortal Kombat 4 For The Game Boy Color

8 04 2014

Went to one of a couple local flea markets here in Calgary last Sunday (April 6, 2014) and grabbed this Game Boy Advance and a copy of Mortal Kombat 4 for the Game Boy Color. Nothing fancy, but I did need an original Game Boy Advance since mine went missing several years ago, and as for the Mortal Kombat 4 cartridge… well, it was included. Got both of them for $20 Canadian.

Had An Awesome Time Hangin’ With My Retro Collector Friends From Colexions.com

7 04 2014

My buddy and fellow Retro Gaming fanatic Corey Buckner has put together a great community of fellow minded collectors over at colexions.com. Well, not only has he put together a great site to show off your own collection and geek out over fellow collectors treasures, he also hosts a monthly “Show And Tell” on Google Hangouts. What it is is a group of us collectors having a great time, showing off our stuff and talking about retro gaming and what ever else might come to mind. This was the third monthly get together and boy did we get to see some amazing stuff. We represented five different countries and three different continents but the distances just made the conversation better. It’s really cool to be able to meet like this. We had Corey Buckner (of course) from just outside Chicago and indie game developer Gary Brafford in West Virginia and lifespiller79 from…um sorry man, Texas (I think), all three in the U.S. of A,  We had Gabo representing Argentina, Mark in the U.K, Paul in Australia and little ol’ me up here in Canada. Everyone pulled out all the stops and showed some real stunners from our collections. Checkout last Saturday’s get together below:

A Fantastic Intellivision Haul…And More!

5 01 2014

I decided to peruse a local online buy and sell site to see if there was any retro treasure to be found… There was! I bagged a boxed, great condition Intellivision, a crap load of great games, the Intellivoice add-on. But that, my fine feathered Internet friends was not all. No indeed, it is not. Included with the Intellivision was the extremely rare Educational Computer System (ECS) add-on, with the also ridiculously rare Music Synthesizer keyboard add-on. Pretty crazy, eh? Well, wait – there’s even more: the guy also threw in an Atari XE computer/console, matching joystick AND light gun, some Atari paddle controllers, a Kraft joystick, and the really cool button controller for Track and Field.

I got this entire haul for a total of $85 Canadian. The ECS and the XE didn’t come with power supplies, but I tested the XE with an existing power supply from the XE I already have and it works great, as does the ECS as I was able to test it using a Nintendo Entertainment System power supply.

Freakin’ awesome!
