Classic Atari Games Re-Imagined in HTML5

29 01 2013

atari

So there’s a crap load of Atari classic games that have been re-imagined in HTML5 and you can play over at the Atari web site.

Okay, I know that they didn’t need to be reimagined, since there wasn’t anything wrong with the way they were. But for the most part, they play great. You’ll most likely have to look at an ad or two but other than that there are quite a few Atari Classics here for you to play in your browser.

Colexions.com–A Special Place on the Net for Us: The Crazy Classic Video Game Collectors

29 01 2013

Last year sometime I was looking for software that would allow me to catalogue my game and system collection. Using various search word combos in Google I came to the conclusion that there wasn’t such a thing (or at least not one that had all the functions I wanted). That was a bummer. There was an upshot to my search, though: I found the awesome site, colexions.com.

What the heck is colexions.com? It’s a site where fellow classic video gamingcolexions collectors can congregate and post our collections and look at other like minded folks collections. If you want to blog about your hobby you can, and if you want to read someone else blogging about it you can do that also. Do you have a game or a system you want to buy? Or maybe something you want to sell? You can do either here. It’s got pretty much everything you need in a classic video game collecting except one single thing. What’s that thing? Before I tell you what it is, I will tell you that you can actually bring that missing piece to the site yourself. That missing piece is just this: The site needs more members for it truly to be as effective as I know it will be.

So I am asking you to do me a favour and go to colexions.com and sign up and post your collection. I get no financial benefit as the site is not mine in any way, shape or form. The benefit I get is that I get to gawk at even more systems and games and toys on a site that is made just for that. If you’re a collector, or even thinking of collecting then I don’t see what you have to lose.

Oh, that Podcast Thing

22 01 2013

RSSSo, back in 2008 I had a great idea about doing a podcast on classic gaming and retro pop culture. Hell, I even released one episode that garnered quite a bit of positive feedback. I had plans for the second episode too.

One thing got in the way, though: I am lazy.

So, I’m hoping to get the damned thing up and running again, but I won’t make any promises, as I don’t want to lie to you folks. I would be interested to hear from you as to whether or not you folks would be interested in anything like that.

So… hopefully this year will be the year I get this podcast up and running…

“Let’s Compare: Ms. Pacman” By The Shadow’s Nose

21 01 2013

One of my favourite Youtube classic video game video bloggers is a guy that goes by the name of The Shadow’s Nose* and does these great “Let’s Compare” videos where he takes a game and shows you game play of it on several systems while commenting on each. I’ve grown to really like these videos and look forward to each. While I was going through them, I found a Let’s Compare video for Ms. Pacman. Shadow’s Nose compares this classic on the Atari 8 bit systems and the Commodore 64.

Check out the video below:

Also, make sure you check out The Shadow’s Nose Youtube Channel.

*Most likely a play on the old serial radio show, The Shadow as the guy also has a fabulously cool collection of old tube radios!

Great Article On The Death Of The American Arcade

17 01 2013

verge

The Verge has a great article, title “For Amusement Only: The Life And Death of The American Arcade” and it is a good one. Generally I don’t really like the VErge, but this is a great article that discusses the Americam Arcade and it’s eventual death. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with this article nad I love the layout they used. Check it out at theis link:
