Working My Way Through The Call of Duty Campaigns

19 04 2017

Hello my fine feathered imaginary Internet friends!!! I hope you are all doing well this Spring day.

So I thought I would update you all on my current gaming accomplishments. I have been working my way through the Call of Duty titles that I own on the XBOX platforms. Completed so far are Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 2 – Big Red One (the most underrated Call of Duty title in my opinion), Call of Duty 3 and as mentioned in my last blog post, Call of Duty: World at War. I have started the campaign of Call of Duty Black Ops. I have also started the campaign on Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare. And just because, I purchased Call of Duty: Their Finest Hour for the original XBOX via EBay, and am awaiting it’s arrival.

I have to say that I have really been enjoying this stint of Call of Duty gaming, and despite most of these titles being quite old, I found that for the most part the games and the game play held up admirably. The lack of a run button in the earlier titles took a lot of getting used to – if I actually did get used to it, but I got by. I found myself enjoying the the non player characters (NPCs) that I was sidled up with – especially in Call of Duty 2 – Big Red One, where you are the same character, with the same group of guys through the whole campaign. you kind of build a virtual bond with these guys…

So yeah, that’s what I’ve been doin and am doing at the moment. What about you? Why not leave a comment below and let me know if you’re a Call of Duty fan and what your favourite title and/or moments are from the  series.

I found this on a fellow classic gamer’s Youtube Channel, Atarileaf. It’s a history of Hockey video games by a Canadian gamer. Funny stuff and you should watch it!

Video: 20 Games That Defined the [Original] XBOX

25 09 2012

So I have stumbled upon a whole bunch of “20 Video Games That Define” type videos all applemctom’s Youtube page and will be posting them. Sure, this type of list is always an opinion piece, and we know opinions vary but these are good list and good video footage of the games.

This one is the 20 defining games for the original XBOX. I know that the original XBOX didn’t get a lot of love when it was current, other than Halo… but I liked this system,. In fact, until the advent of the XBOX 360, it was my favourite system – playing it far more than any other system (and I always have the current run of consoles). I almost never turned my PS3 or my Gamecube on when these were the three current systems – Pretty much stuck to my XBOX. Some of these games are part of the reason!

Gears of War 2 – Finished!!!

23 12 2008

Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap!!!

I can’t believe it but I did it…

Well, it’s only been twenty or so years but I have finally finished a game.

Wow, what a game it is, too.

I freakin’ loved this game. Every single bit of blood, debris, dust and gore… I Loved this game.  When I was at work, I wanted to get back to it. gears_of_war_2When I needed to get back to sleep, I played “just a little more.”  This game rocked.

Gears of War 2 (GoW2) was a great romp filled with plenty of blood and destruction. There’s even a story there that has made me want to put in Gears of War (the first one) and get the background. Heck, I have already restarted GoW2 in order to find all the collectibles that I missed. For me this is nuts: I’m Mr. Attention Deficit Disorder Gamer. I want more of this game. I am also going to try it on all the harder levels. This game pretty much had it all for me. This was waaaaay more fun than a good movie. The ending  was a little underwhelming – not bad, mind you, just not “OH MY GO…”x360-gears-of-war-2-500

This week plus period of gaming has been a real rush, and now that I have completed GoW2, I itching to complete some more games. Something tells me the next game ending will be coming much sooner than the last!

Now the big decision is just what game it will be. The Halo Trilogy? Grand Theft Auto 4? Who knows?

Grand Theft Auto IV: A Guilty Pleasure

7 05 2008

GTA4 I know this isn’t a “classic” video game, but hey, this is my Blog 🙂

So, I’ve been playing Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA4) for a number of days now and I must say that I am impressed: I rarely play a game for more than twenty to forty minutes tops, and here I am, several hours into a game and not tired of it yet. This is a good thing!

I waffled between buying the XBOX 360 (360) or the Playstation 3 (PS3) version for a while, but settled on the PS3 when I took into account the fact that aside from Resistance: Fall of Man, there really was no game that I was playing on the system. I may have chosen wrong, as I read that there is quite a bit of extra content on the 360 version that isn’t available for the PS3. Even so, I love this game so far.

Not for the young, as it is a mature game, with mature situations, scenes and language and peppered with hookers and hoods galore. Also, not for faint of heart (or spirit),  GTA4 is a brutal affair where you play the role of a Russian immigrant making your way through the ranks of the mob. Through various missions, you gain respect and position, all the while honing your skills. Hell, I found myself bowling with an on-screen girlfriend in the first hour or so of firing it up for the first time! I doubt I will be getting bored with this game very soon. Unlike most games, I am left wondering what’s next – very few games do that to me.

This is a game with depth. I have barely scratched the surface of this game, and I am more than willing to dive right in time constraints like work and sleep are getting in the way of this, though! 😛

If you are old enough to buy it, and not easily offended (and have a PS3 or 360), you should get this game.

Here is one of the trailers for the game:
