Working My Way Through The Call of Duty Campaigns

19 04 2017

Hello my fine feathered imaginary Internet friends!!! I hope you are all doing well this Spring day.

So I thought I would update you all on my current gaming accomplishments. I have been working my way through the Call of Duty titles that I own on the XBOX platforms. Completed so far are Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 2 – Big Red One (the most underrated Call of Duty title in my opinion), Call of Duty 3 and as mentioned in my last blog post, Call of Duty: World at War. I have started the campaign of Call of Duty Black Ops. I have also started the campaign on Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare. And just because, I purchased Call of Duty: Their Finest Hour for the original XBOX via EBay, and am awaiting it’s arrival.

I have to say that I have really been enjoying this stint of Call of Duty gaming, and despite most of these titles being quite old, I found that for the most part the games and the game play held up admirably. The lack of a run button in the earlier titles took a lot of getting used to – if I actually did get used to it, but I got by. I found myself enjoying the the non player characters (NPCs) that I was sidled up with – especially in Call of Duty 2 – Big Red One, where you are the same character, with the same group of guys through the whole campaign. you kind of build a virtual bond with these guys…

So yeah, that’s what I’ve been doin and am doing at the moment. What about you? Why not leave a comment below and let me know if you’re a Call of Duty fan and what your favourite title and/or moments are from the  series.

Descent: The Forgotten Classic

9 09 2009

Found this article on the game, Descent. This game was a pioneering first person  imageshooter that gave you complete three dimensional movement. I used to play the crap out of this game against my uncle on Microsoft’s Gaming Zone (Pre- Live service).

Still playable if you know how to use DOSBOX, and you might be lucky to find the version released for the original Playstation (though it pales in comparison to the PC versions).

Awesome gem and a great article!

Gears of War 2 – Finished!!!

23 12 2008

Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap Holy Crap!!!

I can’t believe it but I did it…

Well, it’s only been twenty or so years but I have finally finished a game.

Wow, what a game it is, too.

I freakin’ loved this game. Every single bit of blood, debris, dust and gore… I Loved this game.  When I was at work, I wanted to get back to it. gears_of_war_2When I needed to get back to sleep, I played “just a little more.”  This game rocked.

Gears of War 2 (GoW2) was a great romp filled with plenty of blood and destruction. There’s even a story there that has made me want to put in Gears of War (the first one) and get the background. Heck, I have already restarted GoW2 in order to find all the collectibles that I missed. For me this is nuts: I’m Mr. Attention Deficit Disorder Gamer. I want more of this game. I am also going to try it on all the harder levels. This game pretty much had it all for me. This was waaaaay more fun than a good movie. The ending  was a little underwhelming – not bad, mind you, just not “OH MY GO…”x360-gears-of-war-2-500

This week plus period of gaming has been a real rush, and now that I have completed GoW2, I itching to complete some more games. Something tells me the next game ending will be coming much sooner than the last!

Now the big decision is just what game it will be. The Halo Trilogy? Grand Theft Auto 4? Who knows?

Robokill – Rock Solid Arcade

16 06 2008

Wow!ROBOKILL

I was stumbling around the ‘Net again just now when I found this game. It’s a cool shooter done in flash that reminds me in a little of cross between the Williams classic arcade game Robotron and Expendable in the Dreamcast. Playing right in your browser, the controls are very easy: a combination of keyboard to move and mouse to aim and shoot. Any casual gamer will have used these controls before on countless other shooters and those new to gaming would probably pick up quite easily.

Wolfenstein 3-D – 16 Years Old Today (may 5th, 2008)

5 05 2008

Wolfenstein 3-D is old enough to drive today!!!

Wow, that 16 years passed quickly! Released on May 5th, 1992, Wolfenstein 3-D showed just what a PC could do, gaming wise. Available in the shareware bin at my local department stores for years, this was the first game that I bought the full version of after playing the demo.

Wolfenstein brought a (simulated) three dimensional play field to life. You were a U.S. Commando by the name of BJ Blazkowicz and it was your job to escape a Nazi prison while ridding the place of guards, S.S., vicious dogs and gold and other treasure. It’s my opinion that almost all 3-D shooters that followed owe allegiance to this ground breaking game.

A version was released for the Super Nintendo that was quite watered down (the dogs were replaced with large rats!), and there were probably other versions that I never heard of out there, too.

Wired.com has a good article on Wolfenstein’s 16th birthday here.
